When it comes to quick high protein snack, jerky trumps all. Epic bars and Chomp sticks are great and easy to travel with, but there’s one problem— They’re HELLA expensive.
I was getting so sick of spending so much $$$$$ on jerky, that I finally got a dehydrator and whipped up my own.
2lbs chicken breasts
1/3 cup coconut aminos (I used Braggs)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. liquid smoke (optional, but sooo good! Omit if gluten free as it may have trace amounts)
1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
Slice chicken into 1/2- 1/4 inch strips (the thinner you make them, the less time they require in the dehydrator)
Toss the chicken in a glass bowl with remaining ingredients
Give everything a mix, cover with plastic and place in the refrigerator for at least 90 minutes (but overnight is best!)
Remove chicken from marinade and place in a food dehydrator according to manufactures instructions. For the Nesco dehydrator I cranked it to 165 for about 5 hours (again, this depends on the thickness of the meat).
Store in air tight containers in a dry place or the refrigerator
